
Training
Orton-Gillingham Training for Parents & Educators Turning Pages training programs are based on the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction. The research-proven approach was developed by Dr. Samual Orton and Anna Gillingham and utilizes phonetics while incorporating visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles.
The training moves from simple to complex in a sequential, cumulative and systematic manner. Trainees will receive explicit instruction on how to implement the Orton-Gillingham approach, including the following techniques:
- Simultaneous Oral Spelling
- Finger Spelling
- Tracing/Skywriting
- Penciling
- Arm-Spelling
- Blending
- And other multi-sensory techniques
Trainees will receive 30 hours of hands-on instruction followed by a 16 hour internship with an experienced tutor.
Upon completion, individuals will be able to create individualized lesson plans and be able to teach:
- Six syllable patterns
- Syllable division rules
- Spelling rules
- Phonemic Awareness
- Affixes
- Sight Words
- Homophones
Orton-Gillingham is effective for students of all ages (K-Adult) when taught by educators and parents who have received specialized training in this approach.
